What are intranets and extranets?
Look at a staff survey of any business with more than around 30 people and you’ll discover it’s an all too common fact that many businesses are not very good at internal communications. The good news is that, provided your staff have access to a PC with links to the internet, poor internal ‘communication’ can be a thing of the past – all you need is an intranet or extranet.
Intranet controls access to common shared information within a collective of private computer networks within an organisation. Utilising standard network hardware and software technology such as Ethernet, WiFi, TCP/IP, web browsers and servers.
Intranet enables staff to have easy access to company data, systems and email from their desktops. Intranet allows the organisation and management of information, sharing documents and email within the company.
Extranet is similar but allows controlled access from outside a company or business. Most extranets use the Internet as the entry point for outsiders with limited access to a website. Extranet is mainly for business-to-business transactions and file sharing.
Introducing extranet to your organisation is beneficial if your work requires collaborating with others outside of your organisation and the ability to share information or files with partners.
Dream Consultancy has the capability to set up Intranet and Extranet depending on your organisations requirements or circumstances.
